This excerpt from “50 Essays” is by Stephen King, an author of many well known books. King talks about how to be a writer. Being a writer you must understand that reading and writing go hand in hand. You must read and write a lot to succeed as a writer. King explains that reading other people’s work is important as well because this allows for the exploration of the different styles of writing. In doing so you will learn what styles you are interested in. He also explains that in doing this you may see yourself adopting multiple styles which is acceptable.

What King talks about is interesting. Even though I am not aspiring to be a writer I understand that reading can help with the way I write, including my blog posts. Reading other people’s work can spark inspiration and creativity. Having said this I agree with Stephen King’s perspective that reading and writing coincide with each other and to be a good writer you must do a lot of both.
