During the first year of second World War, newly appointed Prime Minister, WInston Churchill, made his first speech with the new position. Throughout the Battle of France, Churchill gave three speeches, the first being "Blood, Toil, Tears and Sweat." This speech was given to the House of Commons on May 13, 1940. In this empowering speech, Churchill's focus was to boost Britain's confidence in defending itself against the Germans. The motion eventually passed, unanimously.

This speech made me think about Winston Churchill's pride in his country. I liked that he voiced his determination for victory. His speech was also able to change the to view of the people. The british, at first, were frightened and unsure of what to do. They did not want to fight Germany, thinking it would be hopeless. But Churchill's speech was full of certainity and direction, which gave the British hope.
