This article made me reevaluate my thoughts on reading, which got me thinking more and more about how we learm as well. When we were younger, we were taught by listening and learning. As we grew older we came to realize the amount of knowledge the internet held. This we began spending more time online for work (and play) and in the midst have become quite dependent on it.
Nicholas Carr states that the Internet is the cause to his loss of concentration. I myself can definitely relate to this. For me thwres avou a 2:3 ration of work to play online. when I say play, I'm referring to the time I spend shopping, watching movies, or listening to music online. This doesn't necessarily require a deep concentration so it's more of a leisure time. But when working online, for example on a essay, I rigorously surf the web, skimming through articles, only retaining some of the information, hoping to finish as swiftly as possible. The Internet has seemingly made us less focused. Like Carr said, it is struggling to sit down and read a book quietly and patiently, without my eyes wandering and finding something more amusing.
